If approached by Yell to build your business website. HANGUP without delay!
Nothing wrong with that I hear you say, no and we agree, we live in an era where high pressure sales works, but morally, when someone is selling you a dud, then it doesn’t become funny, especially after they lock you into contracts you can’t get out of.
Let’s take one example that I know of personally. Yell has a youtube channel and on that channel there are 1000’s of videos, nothing wrong with that I hear you say, no, indeed there is not. BUT, 90% of the videos on there for businesses, the business owners didn’t even know they had, they were made by images and a voiceover (from yell) and the business PAID for that video and didn’t even know, (it’s all in the small print you see), but that’s enough about that.
Go to youtube, search yell and you’ll see review after review about how businesses were ‘duped”. Promised all sorts of things that never actually happen.
We have it ourselves, our clients call and say hey, we had a call from Yell, they said they can do better this or better that. I tell my clients, go ask yell where they got your number, the usual answer is, they said they found me on Google.
So let me get this right, they want to sell you a better service, that’s more expensive but they found you on the very place they’re trying to say you don’t list!
The story here is, they should be avoided at all cost, they are inexperienced, overpriced and more importantly, WILL not if, but WILL do damage to your site in the long term.
We’ve all heard of yell right? The big fat yellow pages that we used to get through the doors that you hardly ever see or use now. Well, since the demise of the book, Yell have had to come up with new ways to earn their income and one way is well, let’s say not very business like but more importantly, damaging businesses with their websites and other services.
